Demon's Souls Remake - World Tendency Guide

Welcome to World Tendency Guide. This game mechanic is very poorly explained and I want to fix that with this guide.

There is Pure White World Tendency, Neutral and Pure Black World Tendency. There is also a Character Tendency with the same tendency levels - those are not to be mixed, those are different things.

First things first. Whenever you die in Human Form in some world (in Human form you have full HP) it will lower the world tendency by 1 point. +3 is pure white, -3 is pure black. When you die in Human Form in Nexus it doesn't change anything. My advise is to die in Nexus before going to any world. You don't want to mess with the world tendency accidentally.

Always play in soul form - so, die in Nexus, beat a boss in some world in soul form (beating boss will raise tendency by 1 point, meaning +1 towards pure white). You can also beat the boss in Human Form, but this is risky and if you die it will lower the tendency towards black. That is why you want to always play in soul form.

Each world has at least 3 boss fights. After beating each boss you will regain your human form. Always go to Nexus, die there and continue with world progress. When you do this in each world you will reach pure white world tendencies in all 5 worlds. Now you can do all the white tendency events (some paths open only when this condition is met) in each world.

To lower the world tendency you need to die in the world where you want pure black, while in human form. You can use Stone of Ephemeral Eyes to transform to human form. Die in desired world and teleport back to Nexus. Teleporting will confirm the shifthing, otherwise the state of the world is the same until you teleport somewhere (even to other teleport in the same world). This means you can gain points for pure white by killing Black Phantoms, dying, repeat. It means you can kill 6 Black Phantom enemies/NPC's in a row without teleporting and when you teleport you will change tendency to pure white. The issue is, Black Phantoms appears mostly when you have pure black world tendency, so calculate as you see fit.

Pure white means easier enemies, lower rare item drop rate. Pure black means harder enemies but higher rare item drop rate.

Character Tendency is different. You gain +1 for killing certain Black Phantoms in each world. You lose -1 when you kill some NPC in Nexus. Pure Black World tendency is needed for most of those bellow, here is the list:

Boletarian Palace Black Phantoms
Executioner Miralda (NPC)
Ostrava of Boletaria (NPC, always appears)

Stonefang Tunnel Black Phantom
Scirvir the Wanderer (NPC)

Tower of Latria Black Phantom
Lord Rydell (NPC)

Shrine of Storms Black Phantom
Satsuki (NPC)

Valley of Defilement Black Phantoms
Selen Vinland (NPC)

Check out my game progression guide for ideal path to take to collect everything along the way.
